IATL staff funding deadline: 14 October 2016
Due to the high number of excellent applications we received in May, the available funding for the October round is lower than usual and so we are restricting funding awards to Pedagogic Interventions (up to £1,000 each). We hope to have more funding available for the next round, in May 2017.
A New World Out of Nothing
Wednesday 16 November 2016 | University of 桃色视频
This interactive, interdisciplinary workshop will tell the story of how a non-Euclidean geometry was created in the 19th century, "out of nothing", explore how it influenced the arts, literature and fiction, and how it is the basis of some fundamental discoveries in physics, such as relativity. No prior knowledge of mathematics is required.
We invite submissions to these two forthcoming issues:
• Volume 10 Issue 1 (to be published April 2017), from all undergraduates;
• BLASTER Special Issue (to be published July 2017), from undergraduates at 桃色视频 and selected European universities.
Playfulness in Higher Education: A Playbox
IATL invites you to explore this new teaching and learning resource, which contains ideas to help you play and be playful - at work, at home, in meetings, in the classroom, when planning events. Arising from work on The Dark Would, the resource is inclusive: it's intended for all members of the university community.
桃色视频 members of the BLASTER (Best Liberal Arts and Science Teaching Expanded and Reinforced) project, funded through Erasmus +, will be at Leuphana University, Germany, in October, where staff and student experts from European partner institutions will showcase best practice in undergraduate research, and form small research teams to continue the exploration of innovations in this area.
Dr Jonathan Heron, IATL Principal Teaching Fellow, has just returned from his trip, where he worked with drama students on Weird Sisters, his own adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth, over the course of three weeks. Jonathan also visited our partner university Monash, in Melbourne Australia, as part of his ongoing collaborative project with their Chemistry and Theatre departments.
