Dr Ravindra Desai from our Centre for Fusion, Space and Astrophysics joined Dame Maggie Aderin-Pocock to discuss space weather and the forecasting tools that Ravi is developing that will help protect us from future risks.
2026 work experience placements successfully completed
During the first week of the Easter break (30th March - 2nd April) the department welcomed 12 students to our annual work experience programme. The programme is option to year 10-12 students with an interest in Physics, with priority for local students and those from under-represented groups*. The programme forms part of the department's wider outreach work to broaden access to physics.

Three members of the department were invited to attend STEM for Britain at the House of Commons on Tuesday 17th March to present their research posters.
Agrima Agarwal (Phd Student, Ultrafast and Terahertz Photonics Group), Edward Butler-Caddle (Ultrafast and Terahertz Photonics Group) and Sahl Rowther (Research Fellow, Astronomy & Astrophysics Group) applied to present their research at the event and were accepted following a rigorous process.
