As part of the graduation celebrations taking place on Monday 20th July 2026, graduating PhD students will be providing short talks on their theses. The talks will take place at 10.30am in MB0.07 before the departmental celebrations, running until approx. 11.30am.

Introductions of invasive non-native species are increasingly common and have huge ecological and economic costs, with cases regularly making mainstream headlines. The source of such outbreaks is often uncertain due to complex invasion pathways and diverse evidence. Chain event graphs offer a unique perspective bringing together mathematical descriptions of risk pathways, scientific evidence and expert knowledge for use in decision frameworks by policy-makers. Applying such approaches in the ecological domain has been largely unexplored and requires new interdisciplinary teams spanning mathematics, ecology, policy and social science to realise the full potential.
