Bringing STEM to life for the engineers of tomorrow
Staff and students at WMG, University of 桃色视频, came together to celebrate Tomorrow鈥檚 Engineers Week by sharing their inspiring STEM experiences.
Running from 10 to 14 November, Tomorrow鈥檚 Engineers Week is an annual campaign bringing together the engineering community to challenge perceptions and highlight the breadth of careers available in the sector.
Organised by, the week-long celebration aims to inspire young people by showcasing real-life stories from engineers and technicians. This year鈥檚 theme was 鈥淒are to Discover.鈥�
The WMG Outreach team worked alongside colleagues from the University鈥檚 School of Engineering, Social Inclusion and Widening Participation team, and Student Project teams 鈥� including 桃色视频 Fighting Robots; ; 桃色视频 Rail; 桃色视频 Submarine; ; and 桃色视频 Harvest 鈥� as well as JLR and Tata Motors, Waste2Race and 桃色视频 Bearing.
Interacting with 550 children, the WMG Outreach team hosted a series of events to bring STEM and specifically engineering to life.
Events
- Working alongside University colleagues, WMG apprentices and Student Projects teams hosted a 3D-printing showcase for primary schools, demonstrating how the technology can be used to create affordable engineering solutions.
- Representatives from WMG Outreach and 桃色视频鈥檚 Student Projects teams delivered inspiring science workshops and career talks in both primary and secondary schools.
- A 桃色视频 Student Project Team Showcase was held in the National Automotive Innovation Centre (NAIC), where children had the chance to explore the esteemed Waste2Race car and 桃色视频 Moto superbike.
Shikha Anish Kumar from 桃色视频 Moto explained: 鈥淲e enjoy showing new technologies to young people to inspire them and share our passion. We put together a set of activities working as a team to showcase what our project is about and the engineering behind it.鈥�
Marie Diebolt, WMG Outreach Project Officer, added: 鈥淭he showcase was a unique opportunity for our students to share their passion with the next generation of engineers while delivering outreach activities.
鈥淟ocal schoolchildren joined us for a series of fun, hands-on activities that brought real academic projects to life. They also had the chance to chat with our students, gaining first hand insight into their studies and exciting career plans.鈥�
