Professor Rob Wilson is organising a 1 day International Symposium on Employment and Skills Forecasting to be held at the University of 桃色视频 on 29 September 2011. Participants at the Symposium will be actively involved in skills/employment forecasting in their respective countries.

The event will focus on an international comparison of approaches to labour market assessment and skills forecasting, with inputs from those with hands-on experience, and who can speak authoritatively (and critically) about the strengths and weakness of the various approaches adopted across the world, and the lessons they have learned over the past 20 years.

Ilias has just returned from Thessaloniki, Greece, where he attend a Cedefop workshop on ‘Training Leave and Payback Clauses: Policies and Practices in Europe’. He presented on ‘Implementation and Training Leave in Greece’. The aim of the event was to discuss, validate and complement the results of Cedefop’s studies on training leave and payback clauses to promote VET in Europe. The workshop brought together representatives of governments, social partners, academia and research to encompass all points of view and perspectives in the debates.

Survive or Prosper? A workshop on Directing Research Centres

This workshop explores key issues relevant to creating, sustaining and, ultimately, making a research centre prosper.

The workshop is intended especially for those who direct such centres or who are experienced researchers who may well become directors in the future, or senior administrators of centres. It is also of potential interest to those with corresponding roles in other types of centre in the independent sector or those who manage large collaborative social science networks or projects. The Workshop should, moreover, have relevance for those leading centres in the arts and humanities or operating at the boundaries between the social sciences and science, engineering or medicine.

This event will be held on Tuesday 26th July 2011 at the Royal Institute of British Architects, 66 Portland Place, London, W1B 1AD from 10.00 – 15.30 (with lunch).

Bernard Casey is an invited discussant at the Netspar International Pension Workshop, which is to be held at CeRP-Collegio Carlo Alberto, Moncalieri (Turin) Italy on 16-17 June. This workshop has been jointly organised by the Netspar (Network for Studies on Pensions, Aging and Retirement) team and Elsa Fornero of CeRP.
