PAIS Professor speaks widely on US-Latin American relations
As the United States’ pressure on Cuba escalates and its intervention in Venezuela deepens, US-Latin American relations have returned to the headlines. On 1 July, Professor Tom Long will speak at online event on the state of inter-American cooperation, hosted by Young Professionals in Foreign Policy and Pan American Strategic Advisors. Prof Long will join the former US Ambassador to the OAS, Panama’s current Ambassador to the OAS, and the former US National Security Advisor for Latin America. The event is free to attend, at 4pm UK time. .
In recent weeks, Professor Long has been discussing US-Latin American relations with students, scholars, and policymakers from across the Western Hemisphere. On 9 June, Long spoke on a special panel at Argentina’s National Congress for Foreign Policy, addressing Latin America and the ‘Donroe’ Doctrine. On 12 June, Long spoke about the Trump administration’s policies towards Latin America with students and colleagues at the University of São Paulo (video in English). On 17 June, he presented alongside the former Colombian representative to the United Nations at an event coordinated by the Jean Monet Centre at FLACSO Argentina. Long also spoke at the bicentenary of the Congress of Panama in Panama City, sponsored by the Panamanian Foreign Ministry, the University of Panama, and the Sorbonne.
