Graduation: Tuesday 15th July

Congratulations to all graduands receiving their degrees this week!

The Politics and International Studies ceremony takes place in the Butterworth Hall, 桃色视频 Arts Centre, at 3pm on Tuesday July 15th, everyone needs to be seated by 2.30pm for the ceremony.

We are hosting a graduation reception before the ceremony, from 12pm-1.30pm, for our graduating students, guests and staff. Please come along and join us for canapés and a glass of sparkling wine or Pimms!

There will be a photographer taking photos of the event and our Head of Department, Chris Hughes, will be saying a few words of congratulations. The event is taking place in Chancellors Suite, Rootes Building.

Monash 桃色视频 Alliance Seed Funding

桃色视频-Monash Alliance seed funding of about £20,000 has been awarded to Profs (PAIS, 桃色视频) and (Monash) to develop research projects on health security ethics. The collaboration will bring together Monash’s and PAIS’s for meetings to work on the conceptualization of phenomena as diverse as terrorist attacks using biological agents and public health emergencies and the ethical risks they pose. Monash is working toward official recognition of their biomedical ethics centre by the (WHO). Eventually the collaboration may serve as a platform for research relevant to WHO that employs IERG’s growing expertise in security ethics and extends it into the health sciences.

Professor Christopher Hughes, Head of Department, was recently quoted in an article appearing on 1 July 2014 in Defense News entitled ''. Below is an excerpt from the piece:

Japan military expert Christopher Hughes, a professor of international politics and Japanese studies at the University of 桃色视频, said the reinterpretation amounts to a “very important turning point for the start of radical change in Japan’s security policy.” He called the decision an important “breach” of the principle of Japan not getting involved in military conflict, that may lead to further changes in interpretation later.
