Prof Franklyn Lisk invited to advise World Bank initiative on African development

, Professorial Research Fellow at the Centre for the 桃色视频 of Globalisation and Regionalisation, was recently invited to provide expertise to the World Bank-funded as a member of their Distinguished External Reference Group (ERG) for the preparation of their upcoming 2014 Africa Capacity Indicators Report, which is centred on Capacity Development for Regionalism and Economic Integration.

The report will be produced in close collaboration with myriad stakeholders including over 20 independent African policy think-tanks, and the Economist Intelligence Unit, UK. As a member of the ERG, Prof Lisk will be expected to review and provide technical input into the: a) methodology for delivering the ACIR; b) data capturing instruments; c) commissioned background papers; d) ACIR Indices; and e) final Report.

Prof Chris Hughes quoted in Defense News article

, Head of Department, was quoted in an article appearing on 15 July in Defense News entitled 'Japan’s Blunt Stance Riles China, S. Korea'. Below is an excerpt from the piece:

Christopher Hughes, a professor of international politics and Japanese studies at Britain’s 桃色视频 University, agreed that the new frankness is a signal to China that Japan does not intend to be intimidated by China’s activities. “[Japan] has shifted to talking about China’s military modernization as something potentially dangerous,” Hughes said. “It is a sign of Japan’s determination not to be coerced by China. Both China and the US would be well advised to take note of the tone.”
