Warm weather advice from the Registrar

Dear colleagues,

The has issued a Red Weather Warning for 'Extreme heat' this week on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 June.

We encourage you to take sensible precautions during this time. Dress code expectations are relaxed. Please dress comfortably while remaining appropriate for your role.

If your role permits, and you have agreed this with your line manager in advance, you can choose to work from home if it’s more comfortable.

High temperatures and intense sunlight can pose a risk to people who need to work outdoors.

If your role involves working outside for prolonged periods of time, please check with your line manager if there is any particular guidance you need to follow to stay safe and well. Additional risk control measures might be needed to prevent heat stress and heat stroke, and other longer-term health issues associated with prolonged exposure to intense UV light.

The UK Government has published on how to stay safe and well during the heatwave, which includes:

  • Try to avoid direct sunlight, especially between 11am and 3pm when UV levels are highest.
  • If you are going out during this time, cover up with suitable clothing, wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, seek shade and apply sunscreen liberally and re-apply frequently.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Keep your home cool by closing windows and curtains in rooms that face the sun.
  • Know the symptoms of  and what to do if you or someone else has them.

Kind regards,

Rachel
