New analysis reveals how region-wide policies might be ineffective in eliminating local risk factors for coronavirus spread

Using Italy as a case study, researchers from 桃色视频 Economics have studied the impact of regional lockdown interventions on the spread of the virus during the 鈥渟econd wave鈥 which began around November 2020. They find that regional policies – limited lockdowns - were not 鈥渓ocal enough" to fully tackle local covid-19 risk differences, and argue that interventions could be tailored to better target areas at high contagion risk due to local factors, while allowing for the relaxation of restrictions in areas with lower infection risk, protecting both public health and the economy.

Expert advisory group to help drive progress towards more good jobs in the post-pandemic UK

A new group of expert economic and social sciences researchers has come together to provide independent, evidence-based advice to policymakers on work and employment as the UK emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic. Launched this morning (10 August 2021), the Renewing Work Advisory Group of Experts (ReWAGE) will be co-chaired by Professor Chris Warhurst of the University of 桃色视频鈥檚 Institute for Employment Research and Professor Irena Grugulis, Chair of Work and Skills at Leeds University Business School.


National Teaching Fellows awarded to two 桃色视频 Academics

Dr Letizia Gramaglia (WIHEA) and Dr Meleisa Ono-George (History), have been awarded new National Teaching Fellows in 2021.
National Teaching Fellowships are the most prestigious awards for excellence in higher education teaching, and impact on student outcomes. 2021 sees the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS) surpass 1,000 awardees in its 21-year history, 55 academics have been awarded the fellowship, including Dr Ono-George and Dr Gramaglia.
