T2K results restrict possible values of neutrino CP phase
Scientists are a step closer to determining whether neutrinos and anti-neutrinos behave differently – potentially solving a key question about the creation of our universe – thanks to new results from an international experiment involving particle physicists at the University of ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ.
ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ astronomer among first UKRI Stephen Hawking Fellows
A University of ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ researcher will be one of the first nine Stephen Hawking Fellows, announced today, who will continue Professor Stephen Hawking’s legacy by furthering our understanding of the universe and communicating the wonders of science to the public. They will tackle major scientific questions such as the nature of the early universe and dark matter and whether string theory really is a ‘theory of everything’, engaging with the public through stand-up comedy, art and music.
ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ is slicing up science for International Women’s Day
Fancy learning about space science, making protein jelly, and lighting up a few LED circuits – all before you enjoy tea and cake?
An event at the University of ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ this weekend (Sunday 8 March) will allow visitors to do just that.
Two stars merged to form massive white dwarf
A massive white dwarf star with a bizarre carbon-rich atmosphere could be two white dwarfs merged together according to an international team led by University of ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ astronomers, and only narrowly avoided destruction. They have discovered an unusual ultra-massive white dwarf around 150 light years from us with an atmospheric composition never seen before, the first time that a merged white dwarf has been identified using its atmospheric composition as a clue.
From Lab Bench to Backbench: University of ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ scientist visits politicians in Westminster
Dr Farzana Meru from the University of ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ will be swapping simulations for legislation when she visits Matt Western MP at the Houses of Parliament and Whitehall for a week in Westminster. The week (1 – 5 March) is part of a unique pairing scheme run by the Royal Society—the UK’s national academy of science—with support from the Government Office of Science.
Electric superbike designed by students to race this summer
In a race to be clean and green the motor industry is changing, which has inspired 40 ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ students to make an electric superbike to race this summer, 2020.
