The COVID-19 pandemic has affected many people across the world, one particular way includes supply chains, some people found they couldn’t buy pasta or loo roll, and it was the same for manufacturers, who suddenly had to change their strategies to ensure their supply chain during the pandemic. A survey by researchers at WMG, University of ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ saw 250 mid to large manufacturers from food and beverage to automotive, and pharmaceuticals to electronical equipment and more industries respond to the survey about their supply chain resilience in the current state and future potential.

Advanced recycling company ReNew ELP, based in Teesside, has been awarded a £4.42 million grant from Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency, to build the world’s first commercial-scale plastic recycling plant using Cat-HTRâ„¢ technology with WMG, University of ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ. 

ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ Professor of Sociology Dr Akwugo Emejulu has been recognised as one of the UK’s leading social scientists with the award of Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences. Fellowships are awarded to academics who have not only made an outstanding contribution to research, but who have also applied their expertise to address current challenges in policy, education, society or the economy.

A University of ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ expert in pregnancy and miscarriage joined scientists in meeting Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge during a visit to a miscarriage research centre in London.

Dr Adriano R. Lameira, from the Department of Psychology at the University of ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ, has been awarded a prestigious UKRI Future Leader Fellowship, for his project: The ape and the first word: Understanding the origins and evolution of the first linguistic structures in the human clade through comparative research.

Thanks to funding from BEIS (Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy) a team of researchers led by Professor Tony McNally, from WMG, at the University of ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ in partnership with Senergy Innovations Ltd have developed the first nanomaterial enabled all polymer solar thermal cell. The thermal properties of the polymers employed are modified such that heat from sunlight can be transferred with high efficiency to heat water in a cheap and sustainable manner.
