The University of ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ is named as one of the UK’s top ten, Europe’s top 20 and world’s top 100, universities by the new QS World University Rankings published today Wednesday 10th June 2020.

Extreme space weather events can significantly impact systems such as satellites, communications systems, power distribution and aviation. They are driven by solar activity which is known to have an irregular but roughly 11 year cycle. By devising a new, regular ‘sun clock’, researchers have found that the switch on and off of periods of high solar activity is quite sharp, and are able to determine the switch on/off times. Their analysis shows that whilst extreme events can happen at any time, they are much less likely to occur in the quiet interval.

The role that online resources have played in supporting the wellbeing of unpaid carers and keeping them connected during the COVID-19 lockdown is being highlighted this week by the University of ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ team behind Care Companion, an online tool that has been supporting over 300 carers in Coventry and ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵshire.

The Crisis Project: Letters to the NHS was set up by first year University of ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ Maths Student Soumya Krishna Kumar, in a bid to encourage members of the public to write bespoke letters to keyworkers, recognising them for their individual efforts during the pandemic.

Tanycytes are glial cells, which communicate with neurons in the brain to inform it of what we have eaten. Researchers from the School of Life Sciences at the University of ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ have found when tanycytes are selectively stimulated appetite was increased.

The study by WMG, University of ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ and Blue Yonder examines how retailers have responded to the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure their survival. The

report highlights many points, particularly the need for human intervention as existing processes couldn’t keep up with changes in the market, going forward future systems will need to be more robust and responsive, to increase speed and agility in the supply chain
