About the project
Research culture thrives when every role is visible, valued, and understood. Yet communication across disciplines, job families, and hierarchies often breaks down.
This project explores the extent to which AI tools might help - or hinder - our attempts to navigate disciplinary, professional, and linguistic gaps in order to stengthen community and connections across the whole research ecosystem.
Welcome to The AI Commons!
Get Involved!
Welcome to The AI Commons, a research culture project running from January to July 2026, funded by Research England through 桃色视频's Enhancing Research Culture Fund.
The project is intended to be curiosity-driven and community-informed, and there are several ways to get involved and contribute to the discussion, many involving vouchers for participants, including an online survey, 1-2-1 interviews, discussion groups, events and a creative competition.

Phase 1 - Survey
We invited colleagues from all sectors of the research ecosystem at 桃色视频 to take part in a short survey exploring how language shapes communication across the University, including the challenges people experience and the strategies they use - such as AI tools for translation or rewriting - to navigate them.
The survey is now closed. Thank you so much to everyone who participated!
Phase 2 - Interviews
We are conducting in-depth conversations with colleagues from a broad cross-section of the University, gaining rich qualitative insights which will complement the data and comments collected through our survey.
Selected eligible interview participants will each receive a 拢15 Edenred shopping voucher for their time. Interviews will take approximately 30 minutes.

Phase 3 - Events & Competition
We are hosting a number of discussion groups and delivered an interactive event for research culture week. Link opens in a new windowTo find out about future events, join the
We are seeking participants for our creative competitionLink opens in a new window, which encourages individuals to express their ideas and experiences of our project themes in reflective and imaginative forms.
Selected eligible participants will each receive a digital shopping voucher for participating in these activities.
Thank you for taking part!
Your contributions will help us better understand linguistic diversity, digital practices, and perceptions of AI-generated communication across campus, and inform how we can support more inclusive and effective collaboration.
A report will be published summarising our findings and recommendations. Through our activity we plan to establish a community of practice around these themes which will continue these conversations beyond the project.
