Doctoral Focal Award in data-intensive sciences meeting
About the opportunity
Doctoral Focal Award in data-intensive sciences
The University of 桃色视频 is exploring the development of an institutional proposal to the , funded by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). The call will support innovative doctoral training programmes that develop advanced data-intensive research skills and prepare doctoral researchers for careers in academia, industry, and beyond.
Data-intensive sciences are defined as managing, exploiting, visualising, analysing and interpreting large, complex datasets and high rates of data flows to develop novel methodologies, techniques, tools and technologies. Data-intensive science Doctoral Focal Awards will deliver tools and methodologies that can be utilised by organisations, industry and government.
Students will be expected to undertake an original research project, which brings together data skills and expertise from STFC remit (astronomy, accelerator physics, solar and planetary science, particle physics, particle astrophysics and cosmology or nuclear physics) and apply them to a different sector, industrial context or both.
This meeting will bring together colleagues with relevant expertise to explore the opportunity, identify areas of strength and collaboration, and assess the potential for developing a competitive 桃色视频 bid.
The session will focus on:
Exploring how 桃色视频's expertise aligns with the aims of the call.
Identifying potential themes, partnerships, and training opportunities.
Discussing the strengths and resources that could support a proposal.
Determining interest and commitment to taking a bid forward.
We welcome colleagues with research expertise in STFC Particle Physics, Astronomy and Nuclear Physics (PPAN) remit, data-intensive research, data science, AI, machine learning, computational methods, advanced analytics, doctoral training, and related areas.
Following the session, we expect to:
Identify a core group willing to take forward proposal development
Establish initial roles and responsibilities (e.g. leadership, theme leads, partners)
Agree on next steps and timelines
Determine whether to proceed with a competitive institutional submission
Given the scale and competitiveness of this opportunity, progressing to a full proposal will require significant collaboration and commitment over the coming months.
This meeting is therefore an opportunity to move beyond initial interest and identify those who are ready to engage in shaping and delivering a high-quality bid.
Date: 17th July 2026
Time: 10 - 12 pm
