Parental Leave, Time Off For Dependents, Carer's Leave, Neonatal Care Leave
We understand that sometimes you will need time off to care for a child or dependant. Unpaid Parental Leave is available and in the case of an emergency, you are also entitled to reasonable time off for dependants.
Depending on your circumstances you may also be entitled to Carer's Leave or Neonatal Care Leave.

Time off for Fertility Treatment
Workplace support plays a vital role in helping employees manage the emotional, physical, and financial challenges that can come with fertility treatments or investigations. To support staff during this time, the University offers paid time off for employees to attend related medical appointments. Additionally, employees are entitled to paid time off if they wish to accompany their partner to such appointments. For further information please see Time Off For Fertility Treatment
Flexible Working
All employees are eligible to request flexible working such as, reduced hours, term time only, job sharing, or compressed hours.
Hybrid Working
The University's Hybrid Working Policy sets out best practice measures, guidance and support to enable colleagues to work safely and effectively in a hybrid manner. We know that the majority of staff want to continue to spend some working time off campus where your roles allow this.

Career Break
We are committed to providing you with flexible opportunities at various stages of your career. After six months service you have the opportunity to apply for a period of extended leave through our Career Break scheme.

Find out more about our centrally funded scheme that provides additional study leave for those on academic contracts who are returning to work from long term leave such as:
- Maternity/adoption
- Extended paternity
- Long term parental leave
The award enables staff to concentrate on work that supports their career progression, enabling them to benefit from a sustained period of dedicated time.
Compassionate Leave and Parental Bereavement Leave
We recognise that there may be times where you require time off work to deal with unforeseen circumstances.
Paid compassionate leave is ordinarily (but not exclusively) related to the bereavement of an immediate family member or dependant. Compassionate leave is also available for employees who have experienced pregnancy loss (a loss that occurs up to 23 weeks and 6 days). Please see Compassionate Leave for further details.
