National Student Survey 2026

Successes in NSS 2026

for the Department of Chemistry

The National Student Survey (NSS) 2026 results are in, and we are pleased that the Department of Chemistry has achieved an average positive score of 88.2%, representing an increase of more than five points on its 2025 result.

The Department is now amongst the top three in Chemistry in the Russell Group for Academic Support, achieving an outstanding score of 96%. It is also placed within the top ten in Chemistry in the Russell Group for three further themes:

  • Teaching and My Course (92.3%)
  • Learning Opportunities (88.7%)
  • Assessment and Feedback (79.6%)

Particularly encouraging is the more than 10-point improvement in key areas with students increasingly satisfied with:

  • The extent to which their course has the right balance of directed and independent study (86.1%)
  • How often teaching staff make the subject engaging (85.1%)
  • The ease of accessing subject-specific resources when needed (92.0%)

We are pleased to see the positive experiences our 2026 finalists have had during their time with us, and we are thrilled that the survey represents another strong year for the Department. Whilst we celebrate these achievements, we remain committed to listening to our students and building on this success. We will continue to focus on the areas that matter most to our students, ensuring that the Department provides an outstanding and continually improving learning environment for current and future generations of chemists.
