In order to be eligible to apply for the scholarship, you need to be able to answer yes to all three questions in Part 1 and at least one question in Part 2 and meet at least one of the criteria in Part 3. Please indicate all criteria that apply to you.

Applications will not be considered for those who do not meet all three of the following eligibility criteria.

Part 1 - General Eligibility

1. Are you eligible to pay tuition fees at the Home rate?

2. Can you confirm that you do not already hold a Masters (or Integrated Masters), PhD qualification or equivalent level qualification?

3. Are you applying for an eligible taught Masters course, studying full-time or part-time, starting in October 2026?

Course Exclusions please note that the following courses are not eligible for this funding:

â–ª Module based courses not achieving 180 CATS over 1 year (ie Executive MBA course)

â–ª Distance Learning courses

â–ª Postgraduate Diplomas or Postgraduate Certificates

Part 2 - Financial Eligibility

1. If you started your undergraduate course prior to August 2016: You were in receipt of a full or partial maintenance grant from the UK Government as an undergraduate?
2. If you started your undergraduate course after August 2016: you were eligible for a means tested maintenance loan from the UK Student Loans Company for the amounts specified on part 2 of the updated guidance notes, where minimum qualifying loan amounts for students studying at home, and away from home in London and outside of London can now be viewed.
3. Are/were you in receipt of a special support grant from the UK government for your undergraduate course?

4. You have refugee status or humanitarian protection in the UK as a result of an asylum claim or you reside in the UK under a UK Government programme such as the Ukraine scheme or Afghan scheme, and did not take out student finance because you received alternative financial support from your university or charitable foundation (eg Sanctuary Scholarship or Chevening Scholarship)

In order to be eligible to apply for the scholarship, you need to be able to answer yes to all three questions in Part 1 and at least one question in Part 2. You must also meet at least one of the criteria in Part 3. Applications are assessed based on the number and nature of the criteria you provide evidence of. Please be aware that the competitive nature of the award means that although you may meet multiple Part 3 criteria, this will not necessarily guarantee you an award. Please indicate all criteria that apply to you.

Applications will not be considered for those who do not meet at least one of these eligibility criteria.

Part 3 - Under-represented groups in Postgraduate Taught study

1. You come from one of the most deprived areas of the country as defined by the government's IMD (Indices of Multiple Deprivation) database. If your postcode IMD value is in decile 1 or 2, you meet

   this criteria. This is based upon your permanent home address upon entry to University at undergraduate level.

2. You entered University at undergraduate level as a Care Leaver. A care leaver is someone aged 16-25 who was in the care of their local authority for at least 13 weeks at any time since the age of 14, including some time after their 16th birthday.
3. You were assessed as an 'independent student through estrangement' by Student Finance England, Student Finance Wales, Student Finance Northern Ireland or the Student Awards Agency Scotland at any point during your undergraduate degree.

4. You either have refugee status, humanitarian protection, or are in the UK under protection from a specific scheme that makes you eligible for Home fee status and access to student loans from the UK government (such as the Ukraine Schemes or Afghan Schemes).

6. You are in receipt of DSA (Disabled Students Allowance) as an undergraduate student and/or currently receive DLA (Disability living allowance)or PIP (Personal Independence payment).

7. You began your undergraduate studies aged 21+.
8. You are a carer for an ill or disabled family member and you are in receipt of Carers Allowance prior to enrolling on your course, or are able to provide proof that you are a carer. If you are unsure if you are a carer, please click for a definition.

Should you have any other extenuating circumstances you feel we need to be made aware of as part of your application, there will be an opportunity to share this on the form.

Results of the ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ Taught Masters Scholarship Scheme award competition will be communicated through email by 30th June 2026.

Please note: The University's financial support arrangements are specific to a student's academic year of entry. Continuing, transferring or repeating students who started a Masters course with the University prior to academic year 2026/2027 are not eligible for this scholarship.
